Southern Italian Cooking Experiences
Hands-on seasonal cooking, thoughtful local wine pairings and the warmth of a shared long lunch.

At Back 2 Basics Traditions, our cooking experiences are inspired by the Southern Italian table — seasonal food, family tradition, local produce and the joy of gathering to cook and eat together.

These are not just classes. They are small, welcoming food experiences where guests cook, taste, learn and then sit down to share the dishes they have helped create.

Inspired by generations of family knowledge and shaped by the rhythm of the seasons, each experience is designed to be hands-on, generous and memorable.

SPRING AT THE SOUTHERN ITALIAN TABLE

Sunday 1st Novemeber

More than a cooking class

Our cooking experiences are rooted in the food traditions of Southern Italy.

These are warm, hands-on experiences shaped by family tradition, seasonal produce and the kind of food that has long brought people together around the table.

Guests do not simply watch. They take part in the preparation, the cooking, the tasting and the conversation, before sitting down to enjoy a shared long table experience.

Seasonal by nature

Our experiences change with the seasons, just as they have always done in Southern Italian kitchens.

What is fresh, local and abundant helps shape the menu — from soups and slow-cooked winter dishes to pasta making, preserving, olive oil tastings and the flavours that belong around a generous shared table.

The shared table

At the heart of every Back 2 Basics Traditions experience is the shared table.

This is where the preparation, the flavours and the atmosphere of the day come together — not in a rushed or formal way, but in the spirit of Southern Italian hospitality, where food is made to be shared generously.

It is about more than learning how to make a dish. It is about cooking together, tasting along the way, and then sitting down to enjoy a long lunch with good food, good wine and good company.

Thoughtful local wine pairings

Where featured, our cooking experiences are complemented by thoughtfully matched local wines.

These pairings are chosen to enhance the flavours of the food and add another layer to the experience, bringing together seasonal Southern Italian dishes and the character of local wine in a way that feels natural, generous and memorable.

It is not simply about what is in the glass, but about how food, wine and conversation come together around the table.

What you can expect

Each experience is designed to feel welcoming, abundant and hands-on.

You can expect seasonal Southern Italian dishes, guided preparation, practical cooking, stories behind the food, beautiful local produce, and the pleasure of sharing everything at the table once it is ready.

Depending on the season and the style of the event, experiences may include pasta making, preserving, winter dishes, olive oil tasting, liqueur tasting, shared long lunches and thoughtfully chosen wine pairings.

Why people love them

People come for the food, but what they remember is the feeling.

They remember getting their hands dirty. They remember learning something they can take home. They remember produce straight from the garden, the warmth of the kitchen, the generosity of the table, and the way the day unfolds from preparation to long lunch.

They also discover how just a few simple ingredients can create beautiful, deeply satisfying flavours — the kind of food that feels special, yet can still be recreated at home.

That is what makes these experiences special. They are not only about what is cooked, but about what is shared around the table.

For those who love food, tradition and gathering

These experiences are for people who value real food, seasonal cooking and the pleasure of slowing down to enjoy it properly.

You do not need to be an experienced cook. You simply need an appetite for learning, tasting and sharing in the spirit the food was intended to be enjoyed.

Whether you come for the tradition, the dishes, the wine, the conversation or the long lunch, the experience is designed to leave you inspired, well fed and wanting to do it again.

A sample shared table cooking experience

Every experience is different, but a day with Back 2 Basics Traditions may begin with coffee, biscotti and a warm welcome, followed by a walk through the garden to pick what is fresh and in season.

From there, guests are guided through the preparation of traditional Southern Italian dishes — hands-on, step by step — with moments for olive oil tasting, conversation, local wine pairings and seasonal cooking throughout the day.

The experience then comes together where it matters most: at the shared table, with a long lunch built around the dishes prepared together, followed by dessert and a final tasting to finish.
